Become part of the Convent’s Family

We need your friendship and the solidarity of everyone willing to join us in supporting those living in the greatest vulnerability — the most difficult cases, for whom there is no place other than here, at the Convent.

Without your contribution we cannot keep alive the social mission of the Convento dos Cardaes, which has also made it possible to preserve a cultural heritage of immense value. It is worth remembering that, in Portugal, there is no other institution that welcomes young adult women with multiple disabilities, including blindness, and accompanies them throughout their entire lives.

At the Convento dos Cardaes, all residents are received, welcomed and cared for with respect, affection and dedication, so that they may feel that this house is their true Family Home.

IRS and/or VAT allocation

A gesture that costs you nothing

The IRS allocation allows you to donate 1% of your assessed income tax (IRS) to an eligible entity (an IPSS, a religious institution or a public-utility legal person, including environmental and cultural causes). This gesture costs the taxpayer nothing: you pay no additional tax and receive no smaller refund; the State simply transfers that share to the institution you indicate.

You may also allocate the VAT deduction earned by requesting invoices. In this case you are waiving that deduction in your own favour and assigning it to the chosen entity. As a rule, this corresponds to 15% of the VAT on expenses such as repair workshops, restaurants, accommodation, hairdressers, beauty salons and veterinary services, and 100% of the VAT on public transport passes (other nuances are set out in the IRS Code). Unlike the IRS allocation, this gesture does affect the tax you pay or the refund you receive.

Associação Nossa Senhora Consoladora dos Aflitos
NIF 500 809 038

How to make the allocation?

In the traditional annual income tax return (Modelo 3), the allocation is made in Table 11 of the cover sheet (anexo «Rosto»). If you are covered by Automatic IRS, the allocation is made in the «Pré-Liquidação» area.

In either case, to allocate your tax you must indicate:

  • 1. The type of entity you wish to support;

  • 2. The entity’s NIF (tax number);

  • 3. What you wish to allocate («IRS», «IVA» or both).

By allocating 1% of your IRS to the Associação Nossa Senhora Consoladora dos Aflitos, you are supporting our work in caring for people with multiple disabilities, including blindness, ensuring their dignity, well-being and quality of life — at no cost to you.

Solidarity Fine

Turn a fine into an act of solidarity

The law provides that, if you are fined, you may donate your fine to a social solidarity institution. Simply direct the amount to the entity you would like to help, thereby contributing to the cause.

Under Article 281(2)(c) of the Portuguese Code of Criminal Procedure, it is possible to “hand over to the State or to private social solidarity institutions a certain sum, or to perform a service of public interest”, provided that “the offence is punishable by a prison sentence of no more than five years or by a sanction other than imprisonment” (Article 281(1)).

Provided the legal requirements are met, the Public Prosecutor, the defendant or the assistente (private prosecutor) may request this option, subject to approval by the investigating judge.

This covers fines imposed by the courts for less serious offences, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or without a licence.

It is up to you to decide whether you would rather pay the fine as a donation to an institution instead of paying it directly to the State.

Send us an e-mail at conventodoscardaes@conventodoscardaes.com or come to our head office, Rua Eduardo Coelho, n.º 1, 1200-164 Lisboa, bringing the case reference number and your identity card. We will issue a receipt serving as proof to the court that the fine has been settled.

To issue the receipt for the criminal injunction, we need:

  • 1. The defendant’s details (full name, address, NIF and telephone number);

  • 2. The case number;

  • 3. Proof of payment — you may transfer to IBAN PT50 0007 0059 0002 3830 0182 7.

It is a simple way to support our cause. Just as simple is spreading the word about the Solidarity Fine.
Thank you!
